WhatsApp down in Egypt, worldwide for nearly 1 hour
WhatsApp went down for its 2 billion users earlier today. If you’re having issues sending and receiving messages, you aren’t alone.
Service issues started at around 10 pm Cairo time and prevented users from sending or receiving messages on the service for nearly an hour.
The WhatsApp application would still open, but a connecting loop was displayed while the service experienced issues. WhatsApp web also faced service outages issues.
According to outage reporting site, Downdetector shows a massive spike of issues was reported by the messaging app users. However, the reports have started to level off, indicating that the company has started to address the issue.
Facebook-owned messaging app rarely experiences service outages, and this is the first major outage for more than a year. Last year, WhatsApp went down alongside Instagram and Facebook for around two hours, before service was restored.
